Powering the Future: ERO Power Leads Project Management for Prestigious Data Center's Substation

One of a prestigious Data Center Client in Navi Mumbai, a global leader in technology services, is developing the Substation as part of its critical infrastructure to support a data center located in Kalwa, Thane. The Substation is a 220/33kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) system, designed to provide reliable power supply for the data center, with a proposed total load of 500 MVA over a five-year period.

ERO Power LLP played a crucial role as the Project Management Professional (PMP), Consultant, and Services provider, ensuring that the project’s design, regulatory approvals, time management, installation, commissioning, and final charging were executed smoothly. Siemens, as the turnkey contractor, worked in collaboration with ERO Power LLP to deliver the project.

Project Overview

One of a prestigious Data Center Client in Navi Mumbai, a global provider of information and communication technology (ICT) services, is investing in the development of a 500 MVA substation to support its growing data center operations in Kalwa. The data center’s Substation is designed to provide efficient and scalable power to a campus of 13 buildings over a phased period of five years.

To support the growing energy requirements of the data center, two key substations have been established:

  • NAV 2 Substation:
      • Phase I: 220/33kV with two 165 MVA transformers, currently supplying 34 MVA of demand load, with the potential to scale up to 50 MVA.
      • Phase II: A 400/220/33kV setup designed to accommodate the full 500 MVA load in future phases.
  • The Substation (220/33kV GIS):
    • Designed specifically to handle up to 75 MVA of load for the campus. As per the grid connectivity letter dated May 25, 2023, The data Center Client  has been granted grid connectivity for 500 MW across buildings DC 1 to DC 12.

ERO Power LLP’s Role as Project Management Professional, Consultant, and Services Provider

ERO Power LLP was entrusted with the comprehensive management of the Data Centre’s Substation project. As the Project Management Professional, ERO Power oversaw critical aspects of the project:

  • Design and Regulatory Approval: ERO Power played a pivotal role in ensuring the project design adhered to regulatory standards and obtained necessary approvals for project execution.
  • Time Management: ERO Power ensured that each phase of the project, from design approval to commissioning, adhered to strict timelines. The company facilitated smooth coordination between all stakeholders to ensure project milestones were achieved on time.
  • Installation and Commissioning: ERO Power managed the installation and commissioning process of the substation equipment, ensuring that Siemens and other contractors met the highest standards in execution.
  • Charging:- ERO Power supervised the final charging of the substation, ensuring that all components were successfully integrated and fully operational.

Siemens’ Turnkey Contract for Substation

Siemens was contracted to deliver the data center’s substation on a turnkey basis. Their responsibilities included the design, engineering, manufacturing, transportation, and installation of the 220/33kV GIS substation. Siemens was also tasked with the civil construction work, ensuring that all components of the substation were integrated seamlessly and efficiently.
